Why one yard costs more than another
Five things decide where your job falls in each range.
- Lot size and shape
- A corner lot with two sides on the street takes longer to edge than a regular lot the same size.
- Clay and drainage
- A yard that holds water has to be regraded before sod or pavers, and that prep is priced separately.
- Access
- If the only way into the backyard is a 36-inch gate, everything goes in by wheelbarrow instead of a skid steer, so labor goes up.
- Grass and materials
- Zoysia costs more than St. Augustine, cedar mulch more than hardwood, and tumbled pavers more than standard ones.
- Season
- Spring is our busiest time, and in fall we can often get sod or beds on the schedule sooner.

Cost questions Houston homeowners ask
Are these the prices I'll actually pay?
They're the starting prices we quote from, plus the range most yards fall in. The exact price comes after a visit, because the slope, the access and what's already in the yard change the work. You get a written quote with a price for each item, and it doesn't change unless you change what you asked for.
Why is the sod price split into material, labor and prep?
So you can see what your yard actually needs. If your new home sits on a lot that's already leveled, you pay for sod and labor only. An old lawn with weeds and low spots also needs the old grass removed and the ground leveled, priced per square foot. One lump sum would hide where your money goes.
How much does a front yard makeover cost in Houston?
A plan with foundation beds, plants, mulch and edging starts at $2,400 and typically runs $2,400 to $6,500, not counting sod or a walkway. Adding a 2,000 square foot sod lawn starts at $3,200. We can do it in stages, and each stage looks finished on its own.
Is weekly lawn care worth it, or is every other week enough?
From March to October, weekly is worth it for St. Augustine and Bermuda. The grass grows so quickly that if you skip a week, too much gets cut at once and the lawn turns brown. From November to February, every other week is plenty. Our plans switch on their own, so you pay for fewer visits in winter.

What's not included in these prices?
Sprinkler systems, which we don't install; permits, which you pull as the homeowner; and hauling off construction debris that was already in the yard. Plants over 30 gallons, boulders and lighting are priced separately. Everything else listed for each item is included, down to cleanup and hauling off our own debris.
